Titled; Of Deliverance; Part 1. 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (KJV); (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; The body of Christ needs to redefine what deliverance in our day is. I speak with the pain of a minister who over the years witnessed many deliverance services that did not transform the lives of the people who sought deliverance. In those meetings, men and women rolled on the ground, screamed and foamed at the mouth. But over the years, as I studied some of these individuals, I noticed that not much had changed about them. They were still beggarly, diseased and lacking in divine vision. I wondered at what power could throw a man to the ground but fail to touch fundamental aspects of his life. I puzzled at what anointing could cause such strong demonic manifestations but leave a man still unable to put bread on his table. Over the years, I learnt that it is not enough for demons to scream out of a man. That did not guarantee TOTAL deliverance. For some, when demons were cast out of them, these devils simply waited at the church gate for these same individuals because the eviction was only temporary. In Luke 11:21-22, the Bible says, “When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.” The church has not equipped Christians to keep their houses. They are weak in spirit and as such are overcome by demonic oppression because they do not know who they are. They don’t know that the stronger man (Christ), lives in them. They have not fortified the inner man to keep out any demon seeking residence. Knowledge teaches a man to guard his house because strongholds are in the mind.
