Former Preble Co. Law Enforcement Officer Killed in Afghanistan

EATON -- Days before we celebrate Independence Day, an Eaton family mourns the loss of their loved who was overseas in Afghanistan.Preble County Sheriff, Mike Simpson, confirms to us that Kurt Muncy, 42, was killed in Afghanistan while working for a private contractor.Muncy grew up in Eaton and quickly fell into the role of a public servant.Simpson says Muncy worked for the Eaton Police Department, worked as EMS, and was a county dispatcher before getting his own vehicle as a road deputy.I think his experience at the police department and sheriffs office gave him a lot of the skills he took over there with him. to help train them to do their job better, said Simpson.Muncy's character was described as one you couldn't forget. In the midst of county budget cuts, Muncy took a voluntary layoff so it would secure a job for another officer and his family.He was single, and i think he thought i can get something else and ended up being hired as a private contractor, said Simpson.Simpson says Muncy is a prime example of what Independence Day is, our freedoms we enjoy here aren't free, they come at a cost.
