The problem: A company purchased $3000 worth of new equipment to offer new stationery to its customers. The cost of producing a package of stationery is $3.00, and it is sold for $5.50. Find the number of packages that must be sold for the company to break even. The solution: 1200 packages. This is a system of equations, that is essentially solved by substitution. All we need to do is right the two functions, make them equal to each other and solve for the variable. Finally, make sure to check your answer by replacing your answer (1200) into both equations. This should produce the same value for cost and revenue.
