The American swimmer swam to gold in the men's 4 x 200m relay yesterday, surpassing Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina to become the most decorated Olympian of all time with 19 medals. This is a video to examine how he became so brilliant : Part 3-His Physiology. Transcript: Hi again, this is Mike Ang founder of Brilliance University.com. In the previous video, we talked about how his Thinking, his Feeling, which is actually his psychological make up and also we talked about his Spirit which is his spiritual preparation that have helped him, sort of have a grip of everything- at every level. Now in this video, Let's look at his physiological preparation for every race. Now he's a thorough bred, so you got to bear with me the details that I will share with you on how he prepared himself for every race. At 7am, He will be eating his regular meals eggs, oatmeals and energy shakes. 2 hours before his race, he will begin his routine stretching regime starting with his arms, followed by his neck and ankles and so forth. He will then slip into the pool and began his first warm up lap. He started with 800m of mixed styles followed by 600m of kicking, 400m of pulling the buoy or the floater between his legs, 200m of stroke drills. Now after hearing this, you are probably bored already. but you might say what's so special about this? Just be patient. Wait for it. The beauty of this is that the workout took precisely 45mins. He planned it that way. After wearing his suit, he will clamp headphones over his ears, and listened to the same hip hop music that he would listen before every race and waited for his turn. When his name was announced, Michael Phelps stepped up the block and stepped down as he always did. That is his routine. Then he swung his arms 3 times like how he always did ever since he was twelve years old. That's the routine, That's the habit, That's the pattern. He stand up on the block again got into that state and when he heard the gun, he leaped! And when he won the race he said, It felt like I imagined, it would. See, the power of visualisation The power of Imagination. Why does it work? This is what psychologists call small wins, all the way. When the race finally happened, He had already been victorious every step of the way. He had pumped up his physiology to the level of excellence, with his routine, and aligned himself with his Thinking his Feeling and above all, his spirit. Nothing can distract him. He was all geared up to face the race. Everything he did, the stretches, the warm up, the music, was exactly, what he expected. The actual race is just another step in the pattern that he has got used to. Winning is just another natural extension or expression. Now let me quote what Bob Bowman, his coach said: There's a series of things we do before every race that are designed to give Michael a sense of building a victory. All these shows your Physiology will determine also your brilliance. Last but not least, the whole process needed a key person- a good mentor- Bob Bowman Why mentorship is important? Number one: It takes too long and too much time to learn by yourself. It's a long learning curve;. it's a long journey. and sometimes not too much time, too much waste of money. Secondly, you need someone to be accountable to. You need someone that you respect that will measure your growth and performance. There's no other way than to invest in your own self-knowledge and self education. If you think that education is expensive, try ignorance. Training with Bob, according to Michael Phelps, is the smartest thing he has ever done. I am not going to swim for anyone else. What's the definition of a mentor? It's someone has been there and done that. That's a mentor. Go for someone who has the experience not just the concept, or the theory. You can't, you can't buy experience. And once they have it, it's much more than you thought. and it will impact your performance. It's my sincere wish that someone will find you and bring you up, or you will find many others that can really help you to shine. For 20 years, I have trained many executives, I also trained my own son to be a top athelete, and increase their performance in life, work and business. If you think and if you like what I shared with you, I have prepared a module on this framework which will help you to go deeper to explain, step by step. Now this is all available for you free!
