I have a PhD (2017) in Political Science from the University of Victoria, where I have taught courses on the Middle East, protest and civil disobedience, and international relations, and where I am also a postdoctoral researcher with the Borders in Globalization program at the Centre for Global Studies (www.biglobalization.org). Between 2020 and 2014, I spent six months in the region, including three months of doctoral field research. As a third-generation European settler to Turtle Island, I acknowledge that the University of Victoria and neighboring communities are located on the unceded territories of the Lekwungen, WSÁNEĆ, and Esquimalt peoples, whose traditional relationships with the land go back 1000s of years. I also recognize the ongoing suppression and dispossession of Indigenous peoples by the colonial state and extractive industries. / mjcarpenterphd / big_uvic Images in this video were found on the Internet and used here only for educational purposes.
