Man dies saving young girl from oncoming train

A 33-year-old Marion man is being remembered as a hero after he died in a train accident Friday night while shielding a 12-year-old girl who survived and is now recovering at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Angel Franklin said her 12-year-old granddaughter, McKenna, was severely injured when she and a family friend Dalton McMillen were struck by a train as they walked near the tracks on their way to buy candy at a nearby store. Franklin said the two were pulled underneath the train. “She’s a true miracle, a true miracle she is here,” Franklin said. Franklin said McKenna’s condition has been improving, though doctors are still monitoring a serious injury. “It’s still a little touch and go with the brain bleed, but it looks promising,” Franklin said. Franklin said McKenna told her that McMillen used his body to protect her after they went underneath the train. “She told me, he used himself to cover her up, cause they went underneath, he was over her,” Franklin said. “The train caught his jacket and yanked him away from her.” Read More: https://abc6onyourside.com/news/local... _______________ Stay up to date with our social media: WSYX on Facebook:   / wsyxabc6   WSYX on Twitter:   / wsyx6   WSYX on Instagram:   / wsyx6   Subscribe to WSYX on YouTube:    / @wsyxabc6   Daily News Playlist:    • 6 On Your Side   For more information, visit https://abc6onyourside.com/ Have a news tip?
