Viewers' Freetrade Share Portfolio Update February 2023
This is the second update (February 2023) of my Viewer’s Portfolio Experiment. In June 2022 to mark the milestone of surpassing 5000 subscribers, I set up a new portfolio and invested £5000 spread across 10 UK FTSE 100 companies chosen entirely by my subscribers and viewers. Using their combined knowledge and the so called ‘wisdom of crowds’, we will see if this portfolio can beat the market over the course of a year. I’ll use total return as a measure of performance, combining share price growth in addition to dividends. I also bought a FTSE 100 index tracker ETF to use as a market performance benchmark. I’ve chosen to use the Freetrade platform to purchase all the shares in this new experimental portfolio. In addition to this experimental portfolio I also have my main dividend portfolio. I’ve been investing in mainly UK large cap companies for over a decade. I reinvest the dividends and let them compound over time. The ultimate aim is to eventually use this passive income to achieve financial independence and have the option of retiring early.
