Shooting leaves one person dead in northeast Charlotte, CMPD reports

An overnight homicide in northeast Charlotte is under investigation on Saturday, Aug. 9, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. CMPD said it responded to a call in the 2000 block of Prospect Drive just before 1:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. The call reported an "assault with a deadly weapon with injury." Officers who arrived at the scene, which appears to be near the Hunters Pointe apartment complex, discovered a person with a gunshot wound. That person was pronounced dead on the scene, CMPD said. The department has not publicly released the name of the victim. A murder investigation is ongoing, and the department's public affairs office said that it will share more details about the case as the investigation develops.
