12/03/2025: WEDNESDAY OF THE FIRST WEEK OF LENT
Luke 11:29-32 REPENTANCE "At the judgment, the people of Nineveh will stand up with this generation and condemn it because they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here." (Luke 11:32) Meditation: Jesus often used vivid comparisons to ensure that no one could misunderstand His message. The position of the people of Nineveh in the plan of salvation was far removed compared to that of the Israelites, God's chosen people. Moreover, the prophet Jonah was merely a messenger and could never be compared to Christ Himself: "Something greater than Jonah is here." If the people of Nineveh repented immediately after hearing Jonah’s preaching, how much more should God's chosen people repent swiftly and thoroughly! Invitation: The Council of Trent defines repentance as "feeling sorrow and hatred for the sins committed and firmly resolving to amend" (DZ. 1676). Sorrow and hatred for past sins lead to renunciation, while determination to change aims at a beautiful and holy future. Therefore, repentance does not stop at mere feelings but must be transformed into concrete actions—acknowledging wrongdoing to reconcile with God and others while making amends for the harm caused. During Lent, we are called to repent more urgently. The people of Nineveh were spared God's wrath simply by listening to Jonah's words; how much more will we be forgiven and loved by listening to Jesus, His Son! Why hesitate any longer? Repent and be reconciled with God through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Reflection: Share your experience after receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Living the Word of God: Resolve to sincerely repent and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Prayer: Pray the Act of Contrition.
