Most of the time the dog is relatively close to me, but I have the line to be able to let a dog go sniff, then I catch up. Walking is a pleasant dance. I also like teaching dogs to walk beside me with focus, so we have that when needed. My walks are about 95% free flowing and 5-10% focused walking, just to keep the focus habit in practice. I'm posting the first 11 videos from the beginning of my Loose Leash Walking course, a new one each week. Feel free to share them anywhere, with credit to my school. This series on social media is an intro to the full online course, which has 59 super-short videos, about 1-2 minutes each, including my favorite part - Glimmers (the opposite of triggers). The class is appropriate for all dogs, even dogs with reactivity issues. It's also useful for other species! "This was an exceptional class on loose leash walking. I wasn't sure if I would learn new things after working with rescue dogs for over 20 years and going to lots of trainings, but I did! The Glimmer exercises are so important to learn for both you and and your dog. Lessons are presented in a way that is easy to follow and practice. I would recommend this class if you would like a new experience walking your dog." - Karen Rogers Full course info: school.grishastewart.com/courses/leash-walking Feel free to ask me questions in the comments (on the original post) if you're interested in learning.
