Shepherd's pie is a classic, hearty dish made with a savory meat filling topped with a layer of mashed potatoes. Traditionally, it’s made with ground lamb, which is why it’s called "shepherd’s" pie (since shepherds tend to herd sheep), but ground beef is also commonly used in variations.
