How to Install & Adjust Metal Lathe Chuck - Smithy Granite 3-in-1
This Video Shows How to Install and Adjust a Metal Lathe Chuck - Tutorial on the Smithy Granite. Dave demonstrates how to correctly and safely remove a chuck from your metal lathe. This particular chuck is a 3-Jaw Scrolling chuck, but the concepts would be similar for a 4-Jaw or other type of chuck. Remember that chucks are heavy and you are always best to place a protective cover over the ways of your bed to prevent damage. Keep in mind also that a lathe chuck is heavy and can fall quickly when it breaks loose from the spindle face. If you are not ready it could fall on the machine, or worse, on your foot. Later in the video Dave gives a few tips about how to measure and mark your lathe for easier alignment at the point of maximum accuracy. ________________________ Dave Weiss worked as the Service Manager at Smithy for over 20 years.
