KYRIFAX 550 Rifaximin Tablets 550 mg KYRIFAX (Rifaximin) belongs to a class of medications called antibiotics. This medication is generally used to treat Hepatic encephalopathy (A decline in brain function that occurs as a result of severe liver disease. In this condition,the liver can't adequately remove toxins from the blood. This causes a buildup of toxins in the bloodstream, which can lead to brain damage.) INDICATIONS: Hepatic encephalopathy Irritable bowel syndrome Traveller's diarrhoea [Traveller's diarrhoea is diarrhoea that develops during, or shortly after, travel abroad. It is caused by eating food, or drinking water, contaminated by germs (microbes) including bacteria, viruses and parasites.] MECHANISM OF ACTION: KYRIFAX (Rifaximin) is an antibiotic. In hepatic encephalopathy, it works by killing the ammonia-producing bacteria thereby relieving symptoms such as agitation, confusion, and muscle problems. In infectious diarrhoea, it works by stopping the growth of bacteria that cause diarrhoea. DOSAGE: 1 Tablet Twice a day or as directed by the physician.
