As proceedings commenced in the third week of the Joshlin Smith trial, there was uncertainty regarding Lombaard’s ability to testify on Thursday. This arose from her falling ill twice while in the witness box on Wednesday. Prior to 11:00 AM, Lombaard requested the court’s permission to excuse herself. Judge Nathan Erasmus informed the courtroom of Lombaard’s illness and requested an adjournment. He stated that if Lombaard was unable to continue, the day would be shortened, and the matter would be postponed to the following day. However, 45 minutes later, Lombaard entered the courtroom prepared to resume cross-examination. She was still being questioned by Fanie Harmse, the lawyer for Jacquen ‘Boeta’ Appollis. During cross-examination, Lombaard experienced another bout of illness. The court adjourned for the day. However, on Thursday morning, Lombaard was in the witness box, ready to proceed. Judge Erasmus advised her to relax, listen attentively to the questions, and ensure her comprehension. Lombaard also addressed Judge Erasmus, informing him that she had a doctor’s note for his reference. She stated, “I have a document to present to my Lord from the physician.” As the note was presented to the judge without objection from the legal counsel, Judge Erasmus acknowledged its contents. He stated that the note documented Lombaard’s condition and provided assurance that she would be able to continue testifying today. Furthermore, Judge Erasmus clarified that he would refrain from disclosing Lombaard’s medical issue in court records.  #truecrimestories #truecrimepodcast #capetown #medschool #forensicanalysis M.A.I Medical Research Institute - WE ARE Committed to giving you news that is accurate comment that is fair and programming that is not harmful to children, does not amount to hate speech and is transformative and informative.
