WestJet flight attendants strike | CTV News Ottawa at Six for August 2, 2026
Around 4,400 WestJet flight attendants have walked off the job, grounding the airline's mainline fleet and impacting more than 1,250,000 passengers across Canada. CTV's Kamil Karamali reports that CUPE Local 8125 recording secretary Cameron Jones says the union is focused on securing pay for unpaid pre-flight and post-flight duties. WestJet states its latest contract offer would pay flight attendants for all duty hours, which the airline says is equivalent to a 12 per cent pay increase. The airline is also offering a 13 per cent wage raise, larger per diems, and better health benefits, but the union maintains the comprehensive deal falls short.
