New Year's Eve Forecast for Baton Rouge 12-31-24: Mostly Sunny and Dry; Rain Returns at End of Week
Meteorologist Ashley Renee has your 8:50 am forecast. Good morning everyone and happy Tuesday. First, let’s keep those who were affected by Saturday’s storms in our thoughts and prayers. We had some fog this morning, but that has cleared out. Yesterday, Baton Rouge reached a high temperature of 76 degrees. Today will be just a little cooler. Another cold front will swing through our area and bring in cooler and drier air. Today’s highs will be near 70. Skies will be mostly sunny. Enjoy the nice weather for this final day of 2024. Skies will be clear tonight and overnight lows will be near 40 degrees. New Year’s Day will start off cool with temperatures near 40. With the cold front bringing in drier air, that should help eliminate fog issues late tonight/early tomorrow morning. We’ll have sunshine and a nice, light cool breeze tomorrow. Northerly winds will be around 5 mph. Highs will be near 60 degrees. Skies will be mostly clear for New Year’s Eve night. With that being said, you’ll be able to see the fireworks. NE winds will be around 5 mph. Overnight lows will be near 40 degrees. High pressure will move out of the way for the second half of this week. High pressure will move off to the north and east. As mentioned in the past, when this occurs, we’ll have onshore wind flow. Winds will go from being NE to E and then SE. SE winds will bring in warmer air and Gulf moisture. An increase in moisture will also aid in some precipitation returning to our area. Thursday will start off dry, but a few isolated showers could be in our area during the afternoon and evening. Showers will likely continue passing through our area overnight into Friday morning before exiting the area. You’ll probably run into rain during your morning commute, but that rain is only expected to last prior to sunrise. The rest of Friday will be drier. Clouds will also clear. Skies will be mostly cloudy in the morning and becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon. Highs will be near 60. Saturday morning will be cold with morning lows in the upper 30s. Highs will be near 60 and skies will be mostly sunny. Cloud coverage and rain chances will increase for Sunday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will move through in the afternoon and Sunday night, but there may be a couple of isolated showers in the morning too. Highs will be in the mid 60s. Rain will clear out Monday morning and highs will be near 60 on that day. A couple of cold fronts will pass through next week. The first cold front will move in between Monday and Tuesday. The second front will move in between Wednesday and Thursday. Both fronts will bring in much colder air. Highs will only be in the 50s next Tuesday and possibly only in the 40s for Wednesday. Stay tuned for updates. Thanks for watching. Have a terrific Tuesday!
