Chapter 44: Ad-Dukhan (Smoke) - English Translation of the Holy Quran. Sūrat ad-Dukhān (In Arabic: سورة الدخان‎, "Smoke") is the forty fourth surah or chapter of the holy Quran with 59 ayats/verses. The 1st ayat or verse is one of holy Quran's Muqatta'at, the letter combinations that appear in the beginning of some chapters. Ayat/Verse 37 mentions the people of Tubba, interpreters explain that this refers to the people of Sheba. The word dukhan, meaning 'smoke', is mentioned in verse 10.
