The Green Train of Sardinia. Tempio Pausania Station and Workshops. Sardinia Tourism.
The Green Train of Sardinia on their launch day of their Tempio Pausania Station renovation project. The Green Train railway in the north of Sardinia, Il Trenino Verde Della Sardegna, needs some renovation, but work is in hand by an amazing group of dedicated and enthusiastic society members. The fantastic workshop from 1888 and station site is displayed and described in detail by our locomotive driver guide. There is a brief scene on the day of the public meeting at Tempio Pausania Station describing the plans for the renovation of the station building. This scene, I think, shows the extent of the preparation, ability and commitment of the members of the society to the renovation and re-opening of the line. I wish all involved in the project a smooth journey towards the successful conclusion of this wonderful project. Most narrow-gauge railways in Italy were built with Italian Narrow Gauge, (Italian Metre Gauge) which is actually 950 mm (3 ft 13⁄16 in) because historically the Italian track gauge was defined from the centres of the rail instead of the internationally accepted method of measuring the gauge from the inside edges of the rails. Tempio Pausania is a town of about 14,000 inhabitants in the Gallura region of northern Sardinia, Italy, in the province of Sassari.
