Ruling Saenuri Party set to elect new floor leader
누리 원내대표 오후 선출, 더민주 오후 전당대회시기 논의, 국당 초선공부모임시작 Korea's ruling Saenuri Party plans to elect its new floor leader this afternoon. The position is vacant after Won Yoo-chul stood aside hoping to select a new leader that can reform the party which showed poor showing in last month's general election. Some political heavyweights have thrown their hats in the ring. Na Kyung-won, Yoo Ki-june, and Chung Jin-suk -- all four-term lawmakers -- will be fighting it out for the post. All have vowed to revamp the party and establish better ties with the opposition parties. The main opposition Minjoo Party of Korea will discuss when to hold its party convention this afternoon. Interim leader Kim Chong-in is expected to lead the liberal party until the party convention selects its new chairman. Party members are divided between holding it in June or July... or waiting until the end of the year. Also on this Tuesday,... the minor opposition People's Party is beginning a series of 20 seminar sessions for its first-term lawmaker-elects. The sessions will cover diverse topics from economy, welfare to security,... and aim to ensure they are able to fulfill their legislative duties to the best of their abilities.
