In Lesson 40 we: 1. Learn that abbreviations are shortened forms of words. Most abbreviations begin with a capital letter and have a period at the end. We use abbreviations to save time and space when writing. in.=inch ft.=foot mi.=mile tsp.=teaspoon 2. Review our letter names and sounds that we have already learned. 3. Practice writing letters for sounds we know. 4. Learn that initial or medial (k) is spelled k before i or e. 5. Practice reading and spelling words with the new learning of the lesson. 6. Review some of the reading and spelling concepts we have learned.
