The property is a 3rd floor apartment. The client currently resides at the property. Why Call Us Out Now? The residents downstairs reported a water leak from above and so the landlord of the apartment block required access to the client’s apartment for repairs. Due to the state of the property, however, the client realised he needed to get it cleared out to allow access. The State of the Property Magazines and newspapers are piled high in the property, right up to the front door. The client told us it all accumulated over around 20 years. From the floor to the ceiling, most of the apartment is filled at least half way up with rubbish. To get to the back of the property, there was nowhere to stand and we had to hold on to things to retain balance as we ventured in. Practically every room in this 2 bedroom apartment, including the bathroom, had little to no visible floor space remaining. The Clearing Process As the client told us there were things within the property that he wanted to keep, he checked through the rubbish with us as we worked. Most of the things he wanted were items of clothing, unopened/new items and other personal valuable items. As we worked from the entrance to the bathroom, we uncovered piles of newspapers and magazines that were soaked with water and had a rotting smell. We deduced that this must be the source of the water leakage. The soaked paper had compressed with the weight of everything else on top and was difficult to remove. We used a stick to poke at it and gradually break it down. The rotting smell was limited to just that area of leakage and luckily there were barely any insects. There was a lot of dust everywhere. The lighting in the apartment was also not functioning other than in the entrance area, so we were happy that our work days here were during the day and when the weather was pleasant. We found an old window AC unit in one of the tatami rooms. We managed to remove the unit itself but the screws holding some of the panelling up had deformed and were rusty and so we couldn’t get this out. Left like this, the window wouldn’t close, so we cut out the panelling with a saw with the client’s permission. Kansai Clean Service Notable Information The client seemed to have become used to the state of his home and did not seem particularly inconvenienced by the situation. The client would eat elsewhere, use his gym’s bathing facilities and only return home to sleep. As we cleared and started uncovering more items deeper within, we asked the client if there was anything that made him feel nostalgic. He responded that lots of things were making him feel nostalgic, as there were many items there from up to 20 years ago. We found a lot of camera and sound equipment and decided to keep it aside for the client to check. He said that these had lots of important memories in them and he seemed relieved that we had not disposed of them. The client seemed undecided on whether to keep lots of CDs and DVDs, but ultimately made the decision to “dispose of anything that I’m unsure of”. He seemed to be making an effort to let go of some things. ~~~~ Click here to subscribe and support our channel!    / channel   We pray that the deceased rest in peace.
