Nursery English Alphabet A to Z Lesson for Kids ABC Sounds, Words, Tracing, Fun Learning Activities
Teaching the English alphabet from A to Z is one of the most important steps in early childhood education. In Grade Nursery, children begin their learning journey by recognising, reading, and understanding all the 26 letters of the English alphabet. This lesson helps children become familiar with the shapes, sounds, pictures, and basic words connected to each letter. Learning A to Z builds the foundation for reading, writing, speaking, and overall language development. The alphabet consists of Capital Letters (A, B, C…) and Small letters (a, b, c…), and both forms are introduced slowly and clearly to young learners. Children first learn to identify each letter visually, then learn the phonics sound, and finally connect the sound to everyday objects such as A for Apple, B for Ball, C for Cat, and so on. Using colourful charts, flashcards, toys, classroom objects, and picture books helps make A to Z learning exciting and easy. Each letter has its unique sound, and phonics plays a big role in helping children say words correctly. When a child learns that A says /a/ as in apple, B says /b/ as in ball, C says /k/ as in cat, they begin to understand how sounds blend together to form simple words. This skill will later help them read sentences, stories, and eventually full books. Tracing letters is also an important part of Nursery learning. Children begin by tracing dotted lines, practicing air-writing, finger tracing, and then slowly using crayons or pencils. Tracing improves fine motor skills and prepares children for proper handwriting in the next classes. Teachers often include fun worksheets such as: – Match the letter with the picture – Colour the letter – Find the hidden letter – Circle the correct letter – Trace and write A to Z Songs and rhymes like the “ABC Song” also make learning enjoyable. Alphabet videos, chants, and actions help children remember letters faster because they learn through sound, rhythm, and movement. Many teachers use activity-based teaching, where kids identify letters on classroom walls, books, school bags, or even signs around them. Parents also play an important role. At home, children can practise letters by pointing to objects and saying the beginning letter: D for Door, F for Fan, T for Table. This builds confidence and encourages learning outside the classroom. Repetition and daily practice help children memorize all 26 letters smoothly. By the end of the Nursery A to Z lesson, children should be able to: – Recognize all letters from A to Z – Say the phonics sound of each letter – Identify objects beginning with each letter – Trace and write basic forms of capital & small letters – Sing alphabet songs confidently – Match letters to pictures – Develop early reading and observation skills Learning the alphabet is the first step toward literacy. Once children master A to Z, they can move on to blending words, reading simple sentences, and understanding stories. This strong foundation helps them perform better throughout their school life. With colourful teaching, creative activities, and continuous practice, the A to Z journey becomes fun, joyful, and memorable for every child. This video will help little learners understand the alphabet clearly and joyfully—making them confident beginners in the world of English!
