Celebrity Six Pack Myth #5: You Must Do Steady State Cardio

Myth #5 is that You Must Do A Ton of Steady State Cardio To Get Abs. This is one of those old bodybuilder myths that just will not die. You do NOT have to do a ton of steady-state cardio to get lean enough to have visible abs. First of all, HIIT cardio is far more effective. Read the studies. Secondly, if your workouts properly support your low body fat goal then your workouts should be fast-paced and high intensity with low rest periods. If that’s the case, and you are doing metabolic circuits, density training, or some other highly intense fat blasting muscle building protocol then you do NOT need to waste your time doing traditional steady-state cardio. I never do any traditional steady-state cardio. Never. Once a week I do a 20-min HIIT cardio session. Clients that I’ve worked with follow the same protocol, but often I recommend 2-3 HIIT cardio sessions per week until they get below 9-10% body fat. Train with weights, train hard, train intensely, and if you want to add some cardio to your plan then include HIIT cardio. No traditional cardio is necessary to get a 6-pack. Fact. Questions?
