Russian warships set out for Northern/Interaction-2023 joint naval drills with China in Sea of Japan

Four naval ships of the Russian Pacific fleet departed the harbour of Vladivostok to take part in a joint drills with the Chinese counterparts in the Sea of Japan later this month, the Russian Defence ministry said on Tuesday (July 18). The exercise is codenamed "Northern/Interaction-2023". The Russian task force consists of two large anti-submarine warfare ships and two multi-purpose corvettes. The Chinese naval flotilla of five surface ships set sail for the drills area on Sunday (July 16). According to a statement by China's defence ministry, the exercise is aimed at "safeguarding the security of strategic waterways".
