Unlike a fine-dining restaurant menu, fast food menus are loaded with pictures and options and categories. But the prices are very small. Items that cost more are usually the biggest and on the left side where you start reading. Menu engineers get rid of the zeros at the end of prices so that we’re not thinking about spending money. If something is $10.00, most fast food chains will make it $10. The idea is that the extra numbers make us think of how much the meal actually costs, according to a study by Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration. Fast food restaurants make more money when customers add-on to what they ordered. More cheese? Make it a supreme? Soda with the meal? You got it!
