1부( 이어지는 2부 영상입니다 산영루, 중흥사, 관성소터, 행궁터, 남장대터, 대남문, 문수사를 거쳐 서울 종로구 구기동 계곡에서 나들이를 마무리합니다 Part 2 00:00 인트로 / Intro 00:08 산영루와 중흥사 / Sanyungru Pavilion and Jungheungsa Temple Further up the valley was a pavilion opposite the stone tablets commemorating the devotion of the Fortress defence chiefs and other high-ranking officials who worked as administrators for the fortress The tablets were mostly installed in the 19th century when the administration of the fortress was under the charge of Chongyungcheong whose head quarter was located near Segumjeong The pavilion was visited by many foreigners during the Chhosun period as a spot for a picnic and was also popular site for Korean yangbans There are some old pictures of the site taken during the late 19th and early 20th century by the foreign visitors The foreign visitors wanted to take photos of unclothed children, maybe, for authenticity or for the creation of image of backward Korean society Nearby is the monk-soldier temple Jungheungsa Although Arnold Savage-Landor did not specify the name of the temple he visited in his writings, his description of it as being near the stone tablets suggests that it was likely Jungheungsa In his account, he noted that the temple was well-preserved, the monks were exceptionally courteous, and they provided a guided tour of the premises Jungheungsa was severely damaged by a fire in 1904, just a year before Korea signed the Eulsa Treaty with Japan Efforts to rebuild the temple were made shortly after the fire, but they appear to have been unsuccessful until recent times, when the temple underwent full restoration The Buddha statues from Jungheungsa were sold to the newly established museum in Changyeonggung by the Japanese in 1909, just one year before the annexation of Korea 04:29 관성소터와 행궁터 – 남장대터 / Fortress palace and Administration Sites and South Watch Tower Site Not far from the Temple was the sites of the Fortress Palace, built as an emergency headquarters for the Korean court during the Chosun period The palace and adjacent administration buildings were destroyed completely by the heavy flood during the summer of 1925 When Savage-Landor visited the site, though the building were caved in on the roofs and the tall buildings was dilapidated, he found the place was picturesque seen from the distance with the walls around it as a backdrop It was mentioned by the European soldiers that the Bukhansan Fortress would be impregnable for years if properly fortified The Goyang City unearthed during the recent excavation some weapons and other relics and is planning to restored the place After climbing stiff hill, there is a South Watch tower from which one can see the peaks in the center of Bukhansan mountain as well as Goyang city in the north and Suyu-dong in the east There were originally three such towers of which the east tower has been restored so far The American philosopher George T Ladd, who came to Korea at the invitation of Ito Hirobumi and visited the Bukhansan admired the views from the tower Decorated by the Japanese for his contributions to the Japanese government, he was vocal in the justification for the Japanese colonization of Korea and mentioned in his book that historical experiences showed that the stone walls and iron could not ward off moral and political degeneracy 08:21 대남문과 문수사 / The Great South Gate and Munsusa Temple The views from the Great South Gate are stunning picturesque with autumn colours of maples and other trees It is said that, on a clear day, one can see as far as Incheon and meandering Han Rive from the gate Just outside of the gate is a cliff hanging Munsusa temple under the Munsubong Peak The temple overlooking at the Bohyunbong Peak in the opposite has a cavern and the main hall famous for 500 arhats, each with unique expressions Savage-Landor at the time of his visit, the figures numbered 300 altogether at most and were all covered in dust and cobwebs When he visited, a monk was praying at the end of the cavern where delicious flowing from a spring The spring water had been provided to the visitors through a pipe until quite recently but it seems that they have stopped it for some reasons The spring water was believed to have medicinal properties, but Horace N Allen who came to Korea as a missionary doctor and later became the Minister of American Legation remarked rather cynically in his book that, though the spring water attracting many people to visit may not have any medicinal quality, the exercise, good air, water and good views might be good for the health 13:24 구기동 계곡 하산길 / The way down along the Gugi-dong valley The stiff way down through the ‘Gasp Hill’ along the Gugi-dong valley was tiresome as the path was rather slippery and rugged I hope you enjoyed the video
