Sunday Mass - 11 AM - Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Times - Perseverance in Hope
PERSEVERANCE IN HOPE Today, the Prophet Habakkuk teaches us the importance of persevering in the midst of suffering. He is proclaiming God’s word at a tragic moment in the history of Israel; the likelihood of an invasion by the Chaldeans and the subsequent exile in Babylon was upon the people. Everywhere Habakkuk turned he found only suffering and despair. From that place of desolation, he summons the courage to express ultimate faith, hope in God’s plan of salvation. God’s vision for us cannot disappoint. “If it delays…wait for it.” Jesus teaches us in the Gospel not to expect any reward for our hard work in the Vineyard, the work of building God’s Kingdom. We serve the Lord in response to God’s love. The reward has already been given to us, eternal life. We, then, are the unprofitable servants who seek only to accomplish God’s will. We can spend our lives waiting on the Lord; we know that God’s promises to us are true. In the meantime, we press on, confident in God’s vision. We are disciples of Christ, we are ambassadors of Christ’s peace, we are engaged in the work of justice. Even though we, like Habakkuk, may see despair all around us, we will remain a people of hope. This month is dedicated to Mary, especially the praying of the Rosary, with the Feast of the Most Holy Rosary on October 7. Please join for the praying of the Rosary at 8:15 or 10:15 (9:15 on Unity Sunday) before every Sunday Mass. God bless you. Saint Josephine Bakhita, you are with us. Fr. Mitch Join Us for Sunday Mass at St. Josephine Bakhita Parish Welcome to the live broadcast of Sunday Mass at St. Josephine Bakhita Parish.
