10kW military surplus generator for Third Wave @ Blue Marlin Cove/Grand Bahama.
A few years ago I decided to retire with an active lifestyle on Grand Bahama. That was a multiyear plan which now includes a house in Freeport and a canal lot in Bootle Bay just east of Blue Marlin Cove Marina. While in the Freeport area we can get SCUBA tanks filled cheaply at UNEXSO Divers in Lucaya. But out near West End there currently is no dive concession and I intend to do a LOT of diving out there. So my boat partner and I bought a Bauer Unicus II 12 SCFM dive compressor and needed a 3 phase power source for it. We also wanted shore power when Third Wave was docked over at my lot in Bootle. So here is the solution: a military surplus 10kW genset with user-switchable output of either 60Hz 208VAC 3 phase (which is what the compressor needs) OR 120VAC OR 240 VAC. When operating the compressor we will set the generator for 208 volt 3 phase as seen in the video. When simply providing shore based power (so we don't have to rack up hours on our gasoline marine genny while at dock), we'll switch it to 120VAC and run two 30 amp lines to a shore power pedestal out on the dock. Right now, West End on Grand Bahama is pretty dead but that will all change in the next 2-3 years because a big new development named Reunion Cay is about to become reality. Look it up on the web, it is truly going to be iconic and all that Third Wave infrastructure will already be in place and ready for AirBnB customers by the time they begin building it out.
