5th & 6th November 2022: 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ Faith in God of the living & the dead
FIRST READING ~ 2 Maccabees 7:1-2,9-14 RESPONSORIAL PSALM ~ Psalm 16 SECOND READING ~ 2 Thessalonians 2:16-3:5 GOSPEL READING ~ Luke 20:27-38 Today’s scripture readings remind us that God has sovereignty over life and death and compels us to examine our own faithfulness to God. The first reading recounts the strong faith of a mother and her seven sons in God’s power to restore their lives, that they were fearless even unto choosing death over obeying the king. Would we in today’s context, be prepared to die for our faith or would we deny our faith in the face of persecutions? Jesus promises that anyone who believes in Him will live even if he dies (c.f. John 11:25). Thus for Christians, death is not the end and is merely a transition to our eternal life with God. Do we live as a people who truly believe in the resurrection? Do we instead choose material comforts or vain pursuits over spending time doing good works and spending time with God in prayers and at mass? -- CONNECT WITH US -- • Official website ~ http://www.smcipoh.com • Facebook page ~ / churchofstmichaelipoh
