#HoldTheLine: The Battle for Truth | Maria Ressa | TEDxXavierSchool As a journalist in Asia for almost thirty years, Maria Ressa tells us her never-ending passion and determination to seek the truth. She talks about her life-changing experiences handling key issues in her social news network, Rappler, and the problems that face the Philippines today. Despite the criticisms and allegations that come her way, she has persevered and has become one of the most well-known digital media pioneers of this generation. Through her efforts, she has been awarded the Gwen Ifill Press Freedom Award from the Committee to Protect Journalists, featured as Time’s Person of the Year in 2018, and nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2021. In fighting this ‘battle for truth,’ Ressa has become the forefront of the crackdown on media freedoms that the Philippines has faced over the past year. #HoldTheLine: The Battle for Truth - this talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
