Serving as a prequel to the comics, the game features five episodes released between 2013 and 2014. It was later made available digitally for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360, and Xbox One consoles in November 2014. In the game, players take on the role of Bigby Wolf, the sheriff of Fabletown a hidden community in 1980s New York City where legendary characters from fairy tales and folklore live secretly among humans. The story centers around a series of brutal murders, the first of their kind in Fabletown in years. Set in 1986, The Wolf Among Us takes place nearly two decades before the events of Fables. The game's world is shaped by a past where the magical realm, known as The Homelands, was ruled by an oppressive tyrant called the Adversary. To escape his reign, many Fables fled to colonial America and established Fabletown in modern-day Manhattan. To blend in with regular humans, all non-human Fables must purchase a magical "glamour" that allows them to appear human.
