DAY 26: Fourth Sunday of Lent - SPIRITUAL JOURNEY FROM LENT TOWARDS EASTER

The reading from the holy Gospel according to Apostle John (Jn 9: 1-41) narrates how Jesus healed the blind man on a Sabbath. The man who was blind before was closely interrogated by the Pharisees on who healed his blindness. The blind man recounts how he was healed by Jesus (whom he doesn't know, initially) and considers Jesus as a Prophet and a Man of God. Otherwise, He could not perform miracles just as he personally experienced. This infuriates the unbelieving Pharisees that they expelled the man who was blind before from the synagogue. From that time on the man believes in Jesus while the Pharisees, scribes and cohorts remains blind and stubborn; and refuse to recognize and/or accept Jesus as the Messiah. As a matter of fact, this one event worried them so much that they began to plot to kill Jesus. As we look into ourselves today, do we realize that we have been ignoring the call of Jesus to listen and obey all that He instructed us to do and not to do? Like the Pharisees, our unbelief make us blind to see the every moment of miracles and graces that God has provided us. We need to re-visit the Passion that the Lord had to undergo in order to redeem us so that we may be awakened from our stupor. Fr. Budge adds to our spiritual journey his insights and reflections on the day's readings.
