The length of the cervix is a crucial part during pregnancy. It is very important for the cervix length to be above 3.5cm. But if the length reduces to 2.5 or even lower, a procedure called cervical cerclage needs to be done. It is a procedure where the cervix is stitched together so that it doesn't open. Preterm labor is one of the major outcomes of short cervix and in order to prevent it, cervical cerclage needs to be done.
