Zack Snyder On Why ‘Army Of The Dead’ Was His Favorite Movie To Make
Zack Snyder is having a great year. The Snyder Cut was unleashed as Zack Snyder's Justice League not long ago, fulfilling the collective dreams of his massive legion of fans, myself included. But let's leave all that aside for a while because in just a few days, Army of the Dead, his next big movie is arriving on Netflix. Starring Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Ana de la Reguera, Theo Rossi, Matthias Schweighöfer, Tig Notaro, Huma Qureshi and more, the film drop on May 21. Now, it has been over 17 years since his last zombie flick Dawn of the Dead (2004) released with all its wry sense of humour, and just when we thought we've pretty much seen everything coming from the genre since then, Snyder has returned to his zombie roots. And it's not just any action-filled romp featuring the undead but a zombie-heist film. Yup, the director pretty much got to do whatever he wanted with this movie. Army of the Dead takes place amidst a zombie apocalypse. The film’s plot follows a motley crew of zombie killers and experts who assemble for a heist in zombie-ridden Las Vengeance (the film's equivalent of Las Vegas). Snyder has over six credits on his upcoming directorial venture including producer, cinematographer (something he's never done on a feature film before this movie) story, and screenplay writer alongside Shay Hatten and Joby Harold, and as if that's not enough, he also served as DP, going back to his commercial-making days. It's going to be a Zack Snyder Show from start to finish! In an interview ahead of the film's release, Mashable India caught up with the director to talk about his comeback, filmmaking process, and why Army of the Dead was his favourite movie to make.
