Ice Speedway World Championship Inzell: Final race Sunday - Finn Riihimäki wins on Inzell ice 2024
A phenomenal conclusion to the 2024 FIM ICE SPEEDWAY GLADIOTERS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP in Inzell: a head-to-head race with a win for Finnish rider Aki Ala-Riihimäki in the sold-out Max Aicher Arena. The enthusiastic fans set a record for attendance at the event, organized by the DMV Southern Bavaria Regional Group. Never before have both days of the event been completely sold out. The signs for an exciting climax to this racing Sunday on Inzell's legendary ice were already good in the preliminary rounds, as the field of drivers was evenly matched: All World Championship drivers represented in the top category made various statements in the races. Outside: rain, cold. Inside: motorsport action just like the day before. The two and a half hours of the final day in Inzell demanded full commitment from the teams and drivers, as well as the track marshals. Max Niedermaier said of the race's conclusion in Inzell: "Actually, I was doing quite well, as I was able to score thirteen points in the preliminary races, so I didn't risk everything. I also couldn't get clear in the first corner; I wanted to cross a bit, and I bumped a bit. In the preliminary races, I wanted to save my energy for the final. In the final, I risked everything again. Ari, with his age and experience, took advantage of that. Nothing is lost yet, but it's obviously difficult. I would have preferred to go to Heerenveen with a bit of a lead. It is what it is!" Now we're keeping our fingers crossed for Max Niedermaier for the second Dutch World Championship final. "If he can finish on the podium there in such top shape again, then anything is possible there," says Schmiedeknecht. The second final races will take place from April 6-7, 2024, at the Thialf Ice Stadium in Heerenveen.
