Here is the premise she wanted: Elena and Stefan are together and she manipulates him into staying with her despite cheating on him with Damon and Stefan keeps confusing the butterflies he actually feels for Caroline as feelings he has for Elena but eventually he works out that he wants to be with Caroline and Elena fights to get him back even though she still cheats with Damon and Stefan's response is essentially LOL bye.
