Galactorrhea most common reason is hyperprolactinemia or in simple layman language when the levels of a particular hormone called ages prolactin increases in your body which could be due to a variety of reasons, you may notice a leakage from your breasts. The other common causes of galactorrhea are it's very common scenes in which women where there is excessive breast stimulation. Excessive breast stimulation could lead to a milky discharge from your breasts. Second most important cause is use of various medications. A lot of commonly use drugs especially antipsychotics, anti depression medications are known to have galactorrhea or breast secretion as a side effect. Of course there are other serious reasons also which could be seen in a few patients. For example the presence of a tumour in the pituitary gland that is called a prolactinoma. This also could present as leaking breast as the main symptom. So these are the most common symptoms that lead to leaking breasts or galactorrhea. In case you notice that your breasts are leaking, it is advisable to see your doctor at the earliest first step what your doctor would do to get your prolactin levels tested. Prolactin level is a simple blood test wherein we can determine the levels of this hormone. There's another test called a pooled prolactin levels wherein three samples of your blood will be connected at a gap of 20 - 22 minutes.
