How to Grow Hardneck Porcelain Garlic in a Warmer Climate 🧄
Stratification, or cold treatment, is necessary for us here in the South to be succesful at growing hardneck garlic which thrives in colder climates. In this video, I'll show you how to plant and grow hardneck garlic, no matter how warm your climate is! We’ve stratified our Hardneck garlic, also known as Porcelain garlic, in the refrigerator for about 2 months. So now it's ready to get planted into the ground here in zone 8b (mid-December). This particular Hardneck garlic is a variety named ‘Music,' and it's known for its spicy flavor and extra large bulbs. Hardneck garlic (Allium sativum ophioscorodon) is similar to wild garlic, with more complex flavors, and it does well in the cold. And speaking of cold... we’ve got a cold front approaching and along with it some storms. This is the same front that had tornado activity in Tennessee just yesterday. Our thoughts & prayers go out to those who lost loved ones during these storms. As always, I sure appreciate you watching. We’re gonna have garlic coming out of our ears if all the cloves we’ve planted this Fall make it to fruition next Summer! Garlic grows best in full sun in well-drained, fertile, loamy soils with a soil pH between 6.2 and 6.5. Bulbs will be small if the soil is excessively dry, and irregular in shape if the soil becomes compacted, making compost really important. Garlic must be planted in the Fall to permit full development. Plant early enough in the season because vegetative growth ceases when the bulb develops in response to longer days and warmer temperatures in the Spring. 📍VISIT OUR PLANT NURSERY & GARDEN CENTER: Grass Roots Yard Supply 111 Holly Meadows Drive Graniteville, SC 29829 (803) 392-7016 https://grassrootsyardsupply.com/ 👋 FOLLOW GRASS ROOTS GARDENING ON SOCIAL MEDIA / @grassrootsgardencenter / @grassrootsyardsupply #howtogrowgarlic #growgarlic #growinggarlic DISCLAIMER ➙ This video isn't sponsored; some of these links are affiliate links where I'll earn a small commission if you make a purchase - at no extra cost to you.
