North Korean Kids Undertake Thousand-ri Journey to Learn from Kim Il-sung’s Tribulations
North Korea's Korean Central Television (KCTV) recently aired a four-part series called "The Thousand-ri Journey for Learning." The program covers a 400 km (250 mi) journey undertaken by children from the northern edge of North Korea to the capital Pyongyang, following in the footsteps of a twelve-year-old Kim Il-sung, who trekked from Manchuria back to his hometown of Mangyongdae in 1923. Since being initiated by Kim Jong-il in 1974 as an opportunity for children to learn from the hardships experienced by Kim Il-sung in his childhood, over 500,000 children have participated in a “Thousand-ri Journey for Learning” expedition. As this year marks the 100th anniversary since Kim Il-sing made the journey, the regime has been placing an even greater focus on these expeditions this year, linking them to ideological education for North Korea’s youth. In this episode, we take a look at the ever-increasing and ever-diversifying expeditions being undertaken by young North Koreans. #NorthKorea #IdeologicalEducation #MountPaektu #Expedition #1000rijourneyforlearning #1000rijourneyfornationalliberation #MangyongdaeRevolutionarySchool #AntiJapaneseGuerrilla #MountWangjae #MountJangja #Bochonbo #Kanggye #SchoolchildrensPalace
