Week 2 - The Kingdom of God (Origins of the Kingdom) - Michael Goodwin - March 16th 2025
This sermon explores the origins of the Kingdom of God, tracing its roots from Genesis through the Old Testament promises to its fulfillment in Jesus, emphasizing that it’s a sovereign, redemptive plan unfolding since creation. We learned about humanity’s original role to rule with God, disrupted by sin, yet restored through God’s promise of a savior. God promised restoration through the prophecy in Genesis 3:15, foretelling the ultimate defeat of evil. The sermon traces God's sovereign plan through Abraham, Israel's formation, King David, and the prophetic promises of an eternal King from David's line. Jesus fulfills these ancient prophecies, becoming the climax of the Kingdom story, which began in Genesis. Believers are called to trust God's sovereign plan, understanding that He works through ordinary, flawed individuals to advance His Kingdom.
