LCW Doping | Lee Chong Wei's B Sample Result Is Positive Malaysia’s world number one badminton star Lee Chong Wei has tested positive for the banned anti-inflammatory substance dexamethasone, The Star newspaper reported on Saturday (Nov 8). The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) held a news conference on Saturday afternoon and confirmed that a Malaysian shuttler - Lee was not named - had indeed failed a dope test. The BAM said it will fight to prove the player's innocence, hiring a top lawyer Mike Morgan for the player's defence. BAM deputy president Norza Zakaria said the identity of the player cannot be publicly revealed pendingdue process, including a hearing by the Badminton World Federation. "The result of the testing confirmed the existence of dexamethasone in the sample," he said, adding: "We are still not at liberty to reveal the name of the player." Lee underwent a standard procedure random drug test at the World Championships in Copenhagen on Aug 30 where his A sample returned positive. On Wednesday, Lee was in Norway to witness the opening of his B sample for testing. Lee, who could face a two-year ban from the sport if the result is upheld, has been temporarily suspended by the Badminton World Federation, the BAM announced.
