“Return to the Source of Your Joy” Isaiah 9:1-7 Mike Bain, Guest Speaker About our Guest Speaker: Mike has been in love with his wife Christie for the last 14 years and will celebrate their 12-year anniversary this summer. They have three little crazies that they love to spend time with. Owen (7) is about to finish 1st grade, Levi (5) is about to wrap up his year in TK, and Abby (2) is trying to catch up to her brothers as quickly as she can. Mike has the privilege of working for a real estate investment company where he focuses on team development and training. He also served as a youth pastor for nearly 12 years to middle schoolers, high schoolers, and their families. SMALL GROUP & PERSONAL DEVOTION QUESTIONS: • What were the circumstances in Israel at this time? What hope did God provide for his people (vv. 1-5; cf. Matt. 4:13-16)? • What are the names ascribed to the Davidic ruler prophesied by Isaiah (v. 6)? How does each name indicate his character or rule (cf. 11:1-5)? • How would this prophecy be an encouragement to Israel? What is mentioned about Messiah’s rule (v. 7)? • Why is the world in need of a Savior? How does Jesus fit this role? • How will the reign of Messiah be like none other? Why do people long for such a leader? • How is the Messiah reigning in your life? What is the purpose of his reign? How can you share this with others? • Why is "the zeal of the Lord" so important to "accomplish" all that was promised in this passage?
