Unit 3, Chapter 4: The Ottoman Empire (Topic 3.1)

In this video, we talk about one of my favorite empires in world history, the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Empire as we will see is one of several "Gunpowder Empires" in the period 1450 to 1750, including two other land-based empires we will discuss next chapter, the Safavids and the Mughals. We will see how the Ottomans were able to expand so rapidly across Africa, Europe, and Asia, with the use of a complex government system and military technology. We will then look at how the Ottomans embodied those ideas of an absolute monarchy, especially in how they centralized and expanded.
