The Simplest Sweep Against Standing Passers
Most standing passes begin the same way—they step in, split your legs, and start controlling your hips. The goal is to prevent that from ever happening. As your opponent approaches, maintain enough distance to establish shin-to-shin control while preventing them from easily splitting your legs. From there, angle to the outside of their knee (cut the corner), which encourages them to step forward to maintain their balance and pressure. The moment that foot becomes light, spread your legs, secure above the knee with both hands, catch the stepping foot with an outside reap, and use their forward momentum against them. This isn’t a strength-based sweep—it relies on timing, angle, and kuzushi (off-balancing). This is one of my favorite high-percentage sweeps for older grapplers because it allows you to attack before the passer establishes control. 🥋 YouTube: / @oldpeoplebjj 📸 Instagram: / oldpeoplebjj 📘 Facebook: / oldpeoplebjj #OldPeopleBJJ #BJJ #JiuJitsu #ShinToShin #GuardRetention #Sweep #StandingPass #BJJTechnique #MastersBJJ #BrazilianJiuJitsu #Grappling #BJJOver40 #BJJLifestyle #JiuJitsuLife #CombatSports
