1995 - 2002 GM OBS Truck & Van Dash Switch Burnt Out Bulb Repair / Customization (Chevy & GMC)
In this video we will replace the bulbs that illuminate various switches on the dash of 1995 thru 2002 GMT400 old body style (OBS) GM trucks from Chevrolet, GMC, Holden, and Cadillac. These incandescent bulbs are not meant to be user serviceable and GM would expect you to simply replace the whole switch, but these parts are largely discontinued now so that is no longer an viable option. The most common type of dash switch designs are shown, and the bulbs and approach are common to any of the switch illumination problems for these years, as well as many of the earlier years and carry over OBS commercial trucks into 2000 2001 and 2002. The type of bulb you need is a solder lead 14VDC 3mm x 6.5mm T1 size clear incandescent bulb. You can replace with any color you like to customize your truck, or even an LED instead. In the video I replace the bulbs with a 3mm x 8mm T1 bulb and it fit into the switch housings just fine. This repair will directly apply to 1995 1996 1997 1998 thru 1999 GM truck and van dash switches for Rear Hatch (GM Part 15687025), Cargo Lamp (GM Part 15687023), and Aux Light (GM Part 15704482) as well as Rear Wiper Washer (GM Part 15687026).
