New Life's Worship Service on July 16th, 2023, the Seventh Sunday after Pentecost / Proper 10
Worship Service on July 16th, 2023, the Seventh Sunday after Pentecost / Proper 10, at New Life Ev. Lutheran Church of Lake Zurich. Service folder/bulletin: http://www.newlife-wels.org/podcast/p... Before Service Prayer: Heavenly Father, as Lutheran Christians we are very proud to rightly proclaim, "Sola Gratia", by grace alone. You graciously teach us that we are saved by grace (Your undeserved love) through faith. Grant Your people the ability to build our lives on grace, ever recounting that all we have is a gift of Your grace. But beyond the material things You graciously give, help us to build our lives on Your saving grace by daily recounting it and living according to it. Bless the time we spend together in Your house this morning. Send Your Spirit to work in a mighty way, so that like Joshua of old, we too can be warriors for Your kingdom in a wicked world. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Today's Theme: CLOSING WORDS FROM A WARRIOR: In a day and age when genuine, godly masculinity has been labeled "toxic", and the supposed cure for our society’s problems is to feminize men, the idea that a man should be a "warrior", horrifies those who seek to do away with traditional masculinity. Maybe, just maybe, instead of doing away with the warrior mentality, we need to try to reignite it. Paul does describe the Christian man and woman as a soldier, clad in the spiritual armor that comes from God. (Eph. 6) Today, we will hear the Lord speak through a retired warrior named Joshua. As the Lord speaks through Joshua to the people gathered at Shechem, He reminds them again and again why they enjoyed victory over their enemies. It was because God gave them these victories. In other words, their lives as His people were built upon His grace. Spiritual warriors today start with this truth: God's family will always be a grace-based family.
