[NO.262] 누가복음 3:18-20 / 여자가 낳은 자 중에 가장 위대한 사람 (말씀:손석구 박사)

18 또 그 밖에 여러 가지로 권하여 백성에게 좋은 소식을 전하였으나 19 분봉 왕 헤롯은 그의 동생의 아내 헤로디아의 일과 또 자기가 행한 모든 악한 일로 말미암아 요한에게 책망을 받고 20 그 위에 한 가지 악을 더하여 요한을 옥에 가두니라 세례요한은 하나님이 주신 사명을 최선을 다해 감당했고, 누가는 “백성이 다 세례를 받을 새”(3:21)란 한 말씀으로 평가했습니다. 마태복음에도 “예루살렘과 온 유대와 요단강 사방에서 다 그에게 나와 자기들의 죄를 자복하고 요단강에서 그에게 세례를 받으니”라고 기록하며 ‘모두 그에게 나와 죄를 자복하고 세례를 받았다’고 말씀하고 있습니다. 세례요한은 죄를 꾸짖고 회개만 강요하지 않고 권면하며 좋은 소식을 전했고(18) 많은 이들이 회개하며 세례를 받고 새 이스라엘로 살기로 다짐했습니다. 요한은 메시야의 사역 중 심판이 있다는 사실도 불세례를 통해 가르쳐줬습니다. 메시야는 마치 농부가 추수를 한 후 알곡은 모아 곳간에 들이고 쭉정이는 모아 불로 태우듯 심판하실 것이라며, 예수님은 심판의 주님이라는 사실을 가르치셨습니다(17). 예수님이 사랑의 주님인 줄만 알고 심판의 왕이라는 사실을 모르면 안 됩니다. 하나님은 예수님을 영접하고 선을 행하는 자를 사랑하시지만 거역하고 악을 행하는 자들을 심판하십니다. 그 예로 본문에서는 헤롯왕을 예로 들고 있습니다. 헤롯은 동생의 아내를 빼앗아 아내로 만들고는 이를 책망하는 요한의 말을 거역했습니다. 오히려 잡아다가 감옥에 집어 넣었는데 성경은 “그 위에 한 가지 악을 더 했다”고 말씀하고 있습니다(20). 세례요한은 오시는 메시야에 대해서도 분명히 가르쳤습니다. 예수님은 “세상 죄를 지고 가는 하나님의 어린양”(요1:29), “하나님의 아들”이라고 증언했습니다(요1:34). 그의 제자 중에 시몬 베드로와 안드레가 예수님의 제자로 따르는 것을 허락했습니다(요1:40). 예수님은 흥하셔야 하고 자신은 쇠하여야 한다고 가르치면서 예수님의 사역이 크게 시작되고 있음을 예고했습니다. 그의 앞에 보내심을 받은 자라는 사실을 분명히 알고 예수님이 길을 준비하고 평탄케 하는 일에 최선을 다했습니다. 예수님은 세례요한에 대해 말씀하실 때 “여자가 낳은 자중에 요한보다 큰 자가 없다”(눅7:28)고 하셨습니다. 말라기 선지자가 예언한 “보라 내가 내 사자를 네 앞에 보내노니 그가 네 앞에서 네 길을 준비하리라”(눅7:27)고 한 인물임을 증거하셨습니다. 사랑의 주님! 세례요한의 사역을 묵상하면서 참으로 귀하고 훌륭한 선지자임을 다시 깨닫게 하심을 감사드립니다. 이 어려운 때 주님의 말씀 전하며 최선을 다하는 종이 되게 하여 주소서! 예수님의 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘!! QT Sharing Text: Luke 3:18-20 Title: The Greatest Man Born by Women John the Baptist fulfilled the mission God had given him to the best of his ability. Luke evaluated John's ministry in one word: “when all the people were being baptized” (3:21). The Gospel of Matthew says, “People went out to him from Jerusalem, and all Judea and all whole the region of the Jordan confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan.”(Matt.3:5-6) Here he says, “All came to him, confessing their sins, and being baptized.” John the Baptist did not just rebuke sin and preach repentance. He preached good news with various exhortations (18). As a result, many people came to John the Baptist, repented, were baptized, and decided to live in the new Israel. John also taught Israel through fire baptism that there will be judgments during the Messiah's work. John said that the Messiah would judge people like a farmer after harvest, gathering the wheat into a barn and gathering the chaff and burning it with fire. This is teaching that Jesus is the Lord of judgment (17). Therefore, as we believe in Jesus, we must know that Jesus is the Lord of love, and He is the King of judgment. God loves those who accept Jesus and do good, but He judges those who disobey Jesus and do evil. For example, the text uses King Herod as an example. Herod took his brother's wife and made her his wife. Herod disobeyed John's rebuke for this. And he caught him and put him in prison. Pointing to this, the Bible says, “He added one more evil upon it” (20). John the Baptist also taught clearly about the coming Messiah. He said that Jesus was “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). He also says that he testified that Jesus was the “Son of God” (John 1:34). And John allowed Simon Peter and Andrew to follow as disciples of Jesus (John 1:40). And John the Baptist heralded the great beginning of Jesus' ministry by teaching that Jesus must increase and he must decrease. And, knowing clearly that he was the one sent before him, he did his best to prepare and level the way for Jesus. Therefore, when Jesus spoke of John the Baptist, he said, “Among those born of women there is no one greater than John” (Luke 7:28). And the prophet Malachi prophesied, “I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you”(Luke 7:27). Jesus testified that the messenger was this man. Dear Lord! Thank you for making me realize again that John was truly a precious and wonderful prophet while meditating on the ministry of John the Baptist. Help me to be a servant who does my best while preaching the word of the Lord in this difficult time! I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen!!
