Silent Hill 2 - 2001's PS2 survival horror never been so wonderful. Sequel to Silent Hill 1999, a horror game I fell in love with and find myself thinking about on the regular since. Silent Hill 2 quickly showed it's self to me to be beyond the original in many ways. The games entire being is something you can't experience through a YouTube video. No, this is a horror game that truly needs to be played first hand. As soon as I noticed the fog, heard the music and saw the detail and care put into every aspect of Silent Hill's horribly lovely locations, I knew it was special. Silent Hill 2 is often called the greatest survival horror game of all time, and having played it, I find that claim hard to disagree with. A personal journey and a living nightmare; James manages to be as creepy and off putting as he is relateable and understanding. He feels like a real person that has gone through a hard time over recent years, and that sets him apart from most other video game protagonists. This is a character that truly drives the game forward. Not interested in the spooks and scares of the game, it's the breathtaking characters personalities and locations, along with it's fantastic puzzles and riddles that draw me to Silent Hill. Even if I get beat down by a riddle every now and then. A series that could have lasted an age; Silent Hill 2 is as much a joy as it is a depressing experience for many reasons, known there's no other franchise like it and that Silent Hill may have been laid to rest being the most upsetting. But still... Silent Hill 2 stands as a diamond amongst other survival horror games. It's not difficult to see why so many other titles, be they AAA or indie horror games have basically ripped off Silent Hill in as many aspects as they could. Yet none of managed to beat it for the crown. Silent Hill 2 may be the greatest survival horror ever, and I can finally say I experienced that fact for myself.
