Pennsylvania enacts strict distracted driving law to curb phone use on roads

Pennsylvania is set to enforce a new law aimed at reducing distracted driving by prohibiting the use of handheld digital devices while operating a vehicle. Known as Paul Miller's Law, the legislation is named after a Pennsylvania man who died due to a distracted driver. The law, signed by Governor Josh Shapiro in 2024, will take effect on Thursday. "Pennsylvania's new distracted driving law allows police to stop motorists who are using an interactive mobile device while operating a motor vehicle," said Myles Snyder, communications director, Pennsylvania State Police.
