What you NEED to Know about Anaerobic Respiration for AP Bio

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/de... In this video, Mr. W explains anaerobic respiration. Key points 1. Anaerobic respiration is the making of ATP without oxygen 2. Anaerobic respiration creates much less ATP than aerobic respiration. 3. Anaerobic metabolism involves reactions that allow glycolysis to continue to generate 2 ATPs/glucose when aerobic respiration can’t occur. This requires that pyruvic acid, or one of its byproducts, be reduced so that NADH can be oxidized to NAD+, which is a required input for glycolysis. 4. For the purposes of AP Biology, there are two anaerobic pathways to know 1. Lactic acid metabolism occurs in animals when they’re unable to deliver sufficient oxygen to their cells. Lactic acid metabolism also occurs in some bacteria, which is how yogurt is made 2. Alcohol fermentation, which is carried out by yeast, creating ethanol and carbon dioxide.
